How I Became an Instructional Designer
I was born and raised in Southern California - a “Valley GIrl,” to be exact (totally). I’ve made my home in Santa Clarita, although I’m always up for an adventure. The many days of sunshine afford me the opportunity to live an active lifestyle, walking, hiking, biking and swimming.
As a life-long learner, I’ve garnered a variety of experiences. I’ve worked in the entertainment field, owned and operated my own photography studio and I’ve spent more than a couple of decades as an educator and facilitator. When COVID hit, I embraced the opportunity to create engaging learning modules within synchronous learning environments. Then, I started to become interested in how I might apply my skills inside other contexts.
It’s mostly curiosity that inspired my transition from Instructor/Facilitator into Instructional Designer and Developer. I knew I had refined some valuable core competencies and I was wondering how I might apply those skills towards adult learners. After further education, practice, and hands-on experience, I am now able to work proficiently in Articulate Storyline, Rise, Canva, Vyond, Camtasia, Kahoot, Zoom, Powtoon and more. I am able to create design documents, storyboards and I know how to develop eLearning that is SCORM compliant for a Learning Management Systems (LMS). The outcomes matter to me, because the learners matter to me. I believe this shines through in the quality of my work, as well as the results that are seen in job performance.
